Voice of the Martyrs Canada was founded in 1971 by Klaas and Nellie Brobbel, whose son Floyd Brobbel became its CEO in 2019 (source).
Weaknesses
1. Voice of the Martyrs Canada is pro-Roman Catholic.
The Chairman of the Board of Voice of the Martyrs Canada is Peter Jardine (photo), a Traditional Anglican Church (TAC) cleric (source). While all branches of Anglicanism are theologically compromised, TAC has the dubious distinction of having crawled back under the authority of the Roman Catholic pope (source). Unsurprisingly, Voice of the Martyrs Canada is "seeking to strengthen our own ties with the..." ecumenical "Lausanne Movement" (source).
2. Voice of the Martyrs Canada lacks transparency.
Voice of the Martyrs Canada's website does a good job of wrapping the organization in the legacy of Richard Wurmbrand and soliciting money but provides no details on how much money is being collected, how much money is being spent, and by whom; its About Us page names no executive officers or board members.
3. Most of the money collected for the persecuted church never leaves Canada.
While Voice of the Martyrs Canada's website no longer has any weblinks to it, a dated financial statement reveals that only 47% ($1,576,657 / $3,368,235) of the money collected for the persecuted church is spent on "international projects." And since it includes "related salaries and benefits" - i.e., money paid to Canadian staff who engage in international projects - the amount of money collected for the persecuted church that is actually given to the persecuted church is even lower.
4. Over half of the money raised is being kept as cash and short-term investments.
Instead of distributing all or most of the $3.37 million it collected for the persecuted church to the persecuted church, Voice of the Martyrs Canada kept $1.16 million of it in cash and an additional $600,000 in short-term investments. Before soliciting more money, Voice of the Martyrs Canada needs to distribute the money to those for whom it was collected.
5. Voice of the Martyrs Canada donors are gullible.
The same financial statement mentions a survey that Voice of the Martyrs Canada sent to its 23,600 constituents, among whom 577 (2.7%) responded and only 2% of those respondents indicated having requested Voice of the Martyrs Canada's audited financial statements. Those who responded to the survey are arguably the more active elements of its constituency. Only 2% of them having requested the audited financial statements indicates that the proportion of Voice of the Martyrs Canada's donors who made that request is not even 1%. This is a woeful dereliction of the duty to be good stewards of God's money that He has placed in their care. Voice of the Martyrs Canada gets away with not delivering the money collected for the persecuted church to the persecuted church because its donors are not even asking how the money is being spent, let alone demanding that the money be delivered to those for whom it was donated.
